Somay Roof Mastic®
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC® is a premium quality formulation, incorporating heavy duty acrylic resin emulsions which give it incredible resistance to degradation from exposure to the elements, and thus exceptional durability even in hot, tropical climates, the most severe environmental conditions for coatings to endure.
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC® is resistant to wind, rain, sunlight, ultraviolet solar rays, salt air, snow, sleet, hail, etc. First formulated in 1966, it has been tested and proven in use for years in various climates around the world, from Maine to California, from Canada to the Caribbean, from the deserts of the Middle East and Southwestern United States, to South Pacific tropical islands.
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC® will seal, waterproof and protect practically any smooth, structurally sound, well-drained roof surface when applied at the proper thickness according to instructions. TWO VERY THICK COATS of liquid SOMAY ROOF MASTIC must be applied so that they dry and cure to a virtually impenetrable, flexible, seamless, waterproofing, protective membrane. SOMAY ROOF MASTIC® will adhere to properly pre
Extra Special Benefits
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC can provide HURRICANE PROTECTION for your roof. It is the ONLY ROOF COATING which stood up to the 175 m.p.h. winds of HURRICANE ANDREW on August 24, 1992. During Hurricane Andrew, roofs protected with the SOMAY ROOF MASTIC System stayed on, even in the middle of Homestead, Florida, in south Dade county, which received the most severe winds, while other roofs that were NOT protected with SOMAY ROOF MASTIC were peeling off and flying away, leaving houses exposed to the sky, the wind and the rain. ONLY SOMAY ROOF MASTIC has a proven record of providing superior HURRICANE PROTECTION for your roof!
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is an excellent SOLAR HEAT INSULATOR. Based on independent research by the Thermophysical Properties Division of Battelle's Columbus Laboratories, SOMAY ROOF MASTIC has a thermal conductivity rating similar to that of wood or insulating firebrick, and 1/100 that of steel, and 1/1000 that of aluminum! Conclusion: SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is "considered a very good thermal insulator" ... i.e., it is a very poor conductor of heat.
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is an excellent SOLAR HEAT REFLECTOR ."White" SOMAY ROOF MASTIC has a solar reflectance value of 83%, which is exceptionally high for a coating, leading to the conclusion that SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is "superior in relation to all common building materials in the rejection of radiated heat" ... i.e., it is a very poor absorber of heat.
Thus, SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is unique among building materials in that it is BOTH a very good THERMAL INSULATOR (Non-Conductor of Heat) and a superior THERMAL REFLECTOR (Non-Absorber of Heat).
Because of these unique properties, SOMAY ROOF MASTIC can very significantly reduce AIR CONDITIONING ENERGY CONSUMPTION. This was confirmed by additional independent research conducted by The Florida Solar Energy Center (Part of The State University System of Florida), as shown in Report No. FSEC-P-F-274-94. Results after SOMAY ROOF MASTIC was applied to a variety of roof surfaces, including asphalt shingles, bitumen, tile roofs, etc. showed that the SOMAY ROOF MASTIC:
- Increased roof reflectivity over 234%
(from .22 to .73).
- Reduced roof top surface temperatures over 35%
(from 170° F. to 110° F. = 60° F. reduction).
- Reduced under roof (attic) temperatures over 31%
(from 134° F. to 93° F., = 41° F. reduction equal to practically ambient temperature)
- Reduced Air Conditioning Energy Consumption over 43%
(from 1478 W. to 838 W.). , and "savings would have been higher had the house had an air conditioner capable of meeting the cooling demands prior to the application of ROOF MASTIC. After the ROOF MASTIC application, the air conditioner CAN keep the house interior cool!"
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC breathes to allow water vapor to escape and structures to breathe.
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC has exceptional flexibility and elongation to accommodate the normal expansion and contraction of roof surfaces.
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC has exceptional durability and long service life. Weatherometer tests have shown that SOMAY ROOF MASTIC shows NO degradation even after 15 years of ultraviolet light exposure. Actual roof applications, even in the very severe climate and ultraviolet sunlight exposure of South Florida, have shown that many applications are continuing to serve satisfactorily after more than 25 or 30 years. So that why we say it can allow your roof to last indefinitely!
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is FIRE-RESISTANT and will not support combustion.
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is both USER and ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY. It complies with all known current federal, state and local Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) regulations ... it has NO unpleasant odors (so much safer and nicer to have around and work with than hot, smelly tar kettles) ... it eliminates the expense, bother, noise, dust, dirt and mess of tearing off old roofs, which then require being hauled to landfills or dumps. ROOF MASTIC will never have to be taken off to be disposed of, because SOMAY ROOF MASTIC can last indefinitely - and you can clean up yourself and your application equipment with just soap and water.
COLORS ARE APPROXIMATE AND SUBJECT TO VARIATIONS IN MONITORS AND PRINTERS
SOMAY ROOF MASTIC has been proven very effective for years on all well-drained, smooth roof surfaces, including asphalt shingles, asbestos shingles, fiberglass shingles, composition shingles, tar paper or roll roofing, exterior plywood, concrete, including poured reinforced concrete roofs, flat concrete tiles, barrel tiles, slate, plastic, rigid urethane foam insulation, smooth metal, galvanized metal, corrugated metal, smooth wood such as plywood sheathing, mobile home roofs, etc..
Examples of Actual Uses
With two coats of white, reflective SOMAY ROOF MASTIC, the results are amazing … no leaks … protection from ultra-violet sun rays … cooler house … lower electric bills … and the roof can last indefinitely, because SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is made from acrylic resins to retain its flexible, sealing and waterproof characteristics for many years.
Flat Tile or Slate – Whether it's a Flat Tile roof or a Quarry Slate roof, when it gets old and the tar paper underneath dries out, it begins to leak. Tiles or slates are very expensive to replace, but, by just caulking the joints and applying two coats of SOMAY ROOF MASTIC over the entire roof, the original tile or slate roof is completely sealed and waterproofed. The roof will retain its rich appearance and since SOMAY ROOF MASTIC last indefinitely, the roof will not have to be painted for many years. Prices
Barrel Tile - Magnificent hand-made clay barrel tiles are literally irreplaceable … no one makes them by hand anymore. During the complete restoration of an old home, the leaking roof needed to be repaired. In order to save the original tiles, two coats of SOMAY ROOF MASTIC were applied on top of the tiles to seal and waterproof the roof. The walls are also waterproofed with SOMAY ROOF MASTIC. Prices
Poured Reinforced Concrete – Architects have specified SOMAY ROOF MASTIC for application on thousands of poured reinforced concrete roofs in the Caribbean. Most poured-concrete roofs develop hairline cracks which leak. Two coats of SOMAY ROOF MASTIC will seal and waterproof a concrete roof. It also waterproofs poured concrete walls, concrete block and stucco (CBS) walls, etc. It's easy to seal leaks indefinitely with SOMAY ROOF MASTIC. Prices
Asphalt Shingle – Asphalt shingles are supposedly "guaranteed" for many years. But, under the hot tropical sun, asphalt-based roof materials deteriorate very badly in just a few years. The asphalt loses its sealing and flexing properties, becoming brittle and developing cracks and leaks. And asphalt materials attract and hold the sun's heat, adding to the cost of air conditioning. One coat of SOMAY " P S T" and two coats of SOMAY ROOF MASTIC will seal, waterproof, protect and preserve asphalt shingle roofs to make them last indefinitely. Prices
Asbestos Shingle – although many roofs may "appear" to be in good condition, if the invisible tar paper underneath the shingles has dried out and cracked, the roof will leak. Two coats of SOMAY ROOF MASTIC applied directly over an original asbestos shingle roof, will seal, waterproof and totally protect your roof. The homeowner will be completely spared the dirt, mess, noise and annoyance or ripping off the old roof and applying a new one. Prices
Foam Insulation – closed-cell polyurethane foam insulation, installed on the top of existing roofs, must be protected from moisture and the sun's ultra-violet rays to be effective and durable. SOMAY ROOF MASTIC seals, waterproofs and protects the insulation, to help make it last for many, many years.
Architects specializing in restoration and preservation of old buildings, have specified SOMAY ROOF MASTIC on:
- The old "tin" roof of a centuries-old Quaker Meeting House in Philadelphia.
- The old canvas sail roofs of fishermen's cottages in a fishing village along the coast of Maine.
- The old "slate" roofs on a casino, hotel and spa in the desert near Palm Springs, California
- The old wooden roof and walls of an old Inn in Florida (the oldest building in the county).
These architects have used SOMAY ROOF MASTIC on their own homes. They know it works and they trust SOMAY's consistent quality.
